Jeremiah John Rawlings, a Ghanaian Air Force pilot and populist politician, ruled Ghana for nearly two decades, from December 1981 to September 2000. Rawlings began his leadership as a military ruler and later became a democratically elected president through a notable process of political transformation. As a revolutionary politician, Rawlings was both charismatic and controversial. This monograph critically examines the historical accounts and major political events that shaped Rawlings' military and civilian administrations.
